Bayern’s Alphonso Davies Faces Several Months Out Due to Cruciate Ligament Injury

Bayern Munich Faces Setbacks as Alphonso Davies and Dayot Upamecano Suffer Injuries During International Duty

Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies will be sidelined for “several months” after suffering a cruciate ligament injury in his right knee, requiring surgery.

Davies sustained the injury during Canada’s 2-1 victory over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place play-off on Sunday.

In addition, Bayern defender Dayot Upamecano will also be out for several weeks due to a knee issue sustained while on international duty with France.

“Unfortunately, during international breaks, there’s always the risk of players returning injured, and this time it has hit us particularly hard,” said Bayern sporting director Max Eberl. “Our squad is strong and will compensate for these absences. We will now work even closer together. We have the quality to continue pursuing our big goals.”

Davies has made 226 appearances for Bayern since joining the club from Vancouver Whitecaps as a 17-year-old in 2018. The 24-year-old signed a new five-year contract in February, ending speculation linking him to a move to Real Madrid.

Upamecano, who joined Bayern from RB Leipzig for a reported 42.5 million euros (£38m) in 2021, has made 147 appearances for the club.

Bayern Munich are currently six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga with eight games remaining, chasing a record-extending 34th German title. They will also face Inter Milan in the Champions League quarter-finals, with the first leg set to take place in Munich on April 8.
