Officer Slips into River During Crackdown on Illegal Mining

The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into the untimely death of General Constable John Kwabena Dogbey, a member of the Central North Regional Police Anti-Galamsey Taskforce.
According to an official statement, the tragic incident occurred on April 2, 2025, during an anti-illegal mining operation at Assin Domeabra in the Central Region. Preliminary findings suggest that Constable Dogbey accidentally slipped and fell into the Offin River while attempting to dismantle a Chanfan machine used by illegal miners.
Despite extensive search efforts by a team of divers, his body was later recovered and rushed to St. Francis Xavier Hospital in Assin Foso, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The remains have since been transferred to the Police Hospital morgue for preservation and an autopsy.
The Police Administration has extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and assured them of full support during this difficult period.
Meanwhile, the Taskforce successfully dismantled one Chanfan machine and seized two pumping machines, two excavator batteries, three excavator keys, and their corresponding chassis numbers as part of the operation.
