The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has confirmed that there were no fatalities following the heavy rainstorm that swept through Accra on Sunday, May 18.
Mohammed Jafaro, the Chief Disaster Control Officer, reported that numerous distress calls were received from affected areas such as Adenta, Tema, and Kaneshie. In response, emergency teams were quickly deployed to assist residents.
“We’ve had multiple calls for help from communities in Adenta, Tema, and Kaneshie, and our teams have been sent to provide aid. But as of now, I can confirm there have been no casualties,” Jafaro shared during an interview with Channel One Newsroom.
Jafaro also highlighted poor drainage systems and sanitation issues as key factors behind the flooding observed in various neighborhoods.
“Many of the problems stem from inadequate drainage systems, the presence of waste, and in some cases, engineering flaws,” he explained.
NADMO has urged the public to stay vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas during and after rainfall to ensure their safety.
