Hundreds Flock to GNAT Hall Over 2025 BECE Placement Concerns

Many parents, some accompanied by their wards, described the experience as stressful and confusing

Hundreds of anxious parents and students gathered at the GNAT Hall in Accra on Tuesday, September 23, seeking answers and redress regarding the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) school placement.

The large turnout highlighted growing frustration over issues such as misplaced school assignments, unplaced candidates, and limited access to preferred schools under the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS).

Many parents, some accompanied by their wards, described the experience as stressful and confusing, citing long queues, a lack of information, and uncertainty about their children’s academic future.

“I came here to change the school assigned to my son. He was placed in St. Fidelis SHS — I don’t even know where that school is,” said Daniel Lartey, a parent speaking to Citi Newsroom’s Daniel Sackitey.

“We were hoping for a nearby day school. But with how slowly the queue is moving, I doubt we’ll be seen today. Even with the one-week window, it’s unlikely they’ll attend to everyone.”

Some parents expressed concern that their children had not been placed at all, despite meeting the required grades. Others accused the placement system of technical errors and lack of transparency, demanding greater fairness and accountability.

As pressure mounts, calls are growing for the Ministry of Education and CSSPS Secretariat to improve communication, streamline the placement process, and ensure that no qualified student is left behind.
