Two Teenagers Killed in Fan-Police Clash Outside Chile Stadium

Two teenagers have died following a confrontation between football fans and police outside the Monumental Stadium in Santiago, Chile, before a Copa Libertadores match between Colo Colo and Brazilian side Fortaleza.

The incident occurred when police blocked approximately 100 fans attempting to enter the stadium, leading to clashes. Local prosecutor Francisco Morales stated that the teenagers died after being crushed by a fence, and an investigation is underway to determine if a police vehicle was also involved.

Local media reported the victims were 13 and 18 years old.

Police general Alex Bahamondes confirmed that a police officer has been charged in connection with the deaths and that statements are being collected.

Despite initially starting, the Copa Libertadores group match was later cancelled. South American football’s governing body Conmebol expressed its deep regret over the deaths and extended condolences to the families.

Conmebol stated that all information regarding the events inside and outside the stadium will be sent to its disciplinary committee.
