Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has openly acknowledged the failings of the NPP-led government and appealed to Ghanaians for forgiveness and renewed support.
Speaking during a recent event in London, Dr. Bawumia struck a humble and reflective tone, admitting that while the NPP achieved some progress, it also made significant missteps during its tenure.
“We accomplished a great deal, no doubt,” he stated. “But we must also admit that we made mistakes—some of them quite serious. On behalf of myself, the party, and the government, I sincerely apologize for the things we got wrong.”
He emphasized that the NPP has learned from these experiences and is prepared to lead with greater wisdom and accountability if entrusted with power again.
“With God’s grace and the people’s support, we are confident we can correct our course and deliver more effectively. We’ve taken stock, and we’re ready to do better,” Bawumia added.
His remarks come in the wake of the party’s disappointing showing in the 2024 general elections, prompting calls for reflection and reform within the NPP.
