“I Have Full Confidence in My Innocence” – Ameyaw-Akumfi Speaks After Arraignment

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi expresses gratitude for support from family and political allies

Professor Christopher Ameyaw-Akumfi, former Chairman of the Ghana Infrastructure Investment Fund (GIIF), has broken his silence since being charged in connection with the controversial Sky Train project.

He has vehemently deny any wrongdoing and expressing deep appreciation for the strong support he has received.

In a statement released on Friday, May 30, Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi confirmed that he pleaded not guilty to all allegations against him. He reiterated his dedication to transparency and accountability, stressing that these principles must be upheld within a fair and just legal process.

“I welcome the chance to clear my name and stand firm in my innocence,” he said.

The ex-Minister of Education, who held several roles under the John Agyekum Kufuor government, is one of several former GIIF officials facing prosecution related to the halted $2.3 billion Sky Train project.

Launched in 2019 to revolutionize urban transport in Ghana, the initiative was put on hold due to concerns over procurement irregularities and financial feasibility.

Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi described the time since his arraignment as difficult but expressed heartfelt gratitude for the widespread support he has received from family, friends, and his legal team, whose encouragement has bolstered his determination to fight the case.

He also acknowledged key political allies, including former Assin Central MP Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, whom he praised for his “Santaclausian brotherliness,” and Techiman South MP Hon. Martin Kwaku Agyei Mensah Korsah, whose backing “reflects the strong bonds of family.” Both are prominent members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), where Prof. Ameyaw-Akumfi continues to be a respected figure.
