Kennedy Agyapong: Sammy Gyamfi Should Have Been Fired Immediately

Kennedy Agyapong Demands Accountability Over Sammy Gyamfi’s Actions

Kennedy Agyapong, the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, has sharply criticized President John Dramani Mahama’s handling of the recent controversy surrounding the acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi.

Speaking at the Entrepreneurship and National Leadership event at Central University on Thursday, May 15, 2025, Agyapong expressed his dissatisfaction with the President’s decision to not take stronger disciplinary action against Gyamfi.

In his remarks, Agyapong emphasized that nepotism and favoritism are deeply damaging the country’s development.

He cited the recent scandal involving Sammy Gyamfi and Nana Agradaa, stating, “If I were the president, I would have fired Sammy Gyamfi immediately. I wouldn’t have waited even a second, as the evidence was clear. No investigation needed. It would’ve served as a warning to others.”

Agyapong further condemned the rising tide of nepotism in public service, which he believes is hindering progress and placing unqualified people in important roles.

He also lamented that young graduates face challenges in securing quality opportunities without connections to politicians, suggesting this practice is creating a cycle of inefficiency and underdevelopment in the country.

The controversy erupted after a viral video surfaced showing Gyamfi handing an undisclosed sum of U.S. dollars to evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, also known as Nana Agradaa.

The incident sparked public outcry, with many questioning whether it breached the Foreign Exchange Act and the ethical standards expected of public officials.
