Van Dijk Signs New Two-Year Deal to Stay at Liverpool

Club captain joins Salah in committing future to Liverpool under new manager Arne Slot.

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has signed a new two-year contract extension, keeping him at Anfield until 2027.

The 33-year-old Dutch defender, whose previous deal was set to expire at the end of the season, follows in the footsteps of teammate Mohamed Salah, who also signed a two-year extension last week.

Speaking after putting pen to paper, Van Dijk said:

“It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. The journey I’ve had so far at this club has been incredible, and being able to extend it is amazing. I’m so happy.”

Despite rumours linking him to Paris Saint-Germain, Van Dijk was clear about his intentions.

“It was always Liverpool,” he stressed. “There wasn’t any doubt in my mind. This is where I belong. Someone recently called me an adopted Scouser—hearing that gives me a great feeling.”

A Pillar of the Reds’ Success

Van Dijk joined Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton for a then-world-record £75 million fee for a defender. Since his arrival, he has played a central role in Liverpool’s resurgence, helping the club secure major trophies including:

  • Premier League

  • Champions League

  • FA Cup

  • FIFA Club World Cup

  • EFL Cup (twice)

Now playing under new manager and fellow Dutchman Arne Slot, Van Dijk remains a key figure in the squad. He has been instrumental in Liverpool’s push for a record-equalling 20th English league title this season.

With both Salah and Van Dijk extending their contracts, Slot is set to build a strong foundation for the next chapter in Liverpool’s story.
