Trump Administration Warns World Cup Visitors Not to Overstay Visas

U.S. officials emphasize that visitors to the 2026 World Cup must adhere to visa rules or face serious consequences

The Trump administration has sent a clear message to foreign visitors planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the United States: respect your visa limits or face serious consequences.

With the U.S. set to co-host the global sporting event alongside Mexico and Canada, officials are preparing for millions of fans to flock to the country.

While welcoming international visitors, U.S. authorities made it clear that immigration laws will be strictly enforced throughout the tournament. All attendees must leave the U.S. once the event concludes, with any violations leading to possible detention, deportation, and future travel bans.

Vice President JD Vance emphasized the importance of following the rules, saying, “We’re excited to welcome people from nearly 100 countries to experience this incredible event. We want them to celebrate and enjoy the games—but when the event ends, they must return home or face the consequences.”

Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy also added, “We encourage visitors to explore our great country during their stay. But remember, don’t overstay your visa—enjoy the World Cup and your time here, but when it’s over, it’s time to leave.”
