Unpaid for 12 Months: Rotational Nurses and Midwives to Halt Services on June 2

Association leaders warn of nationwide healthcare disruption if demands are not met

The Rotational Nurses and Midwives Association of Ghana has declared plans to launch a nationwide strike beginning June 2, 2025.

This action comes in response to the government’s failure to pay their owed allowances, which have been accumulating for 12 months.

The Association explains that this prolonged delay in payment has become unbearable. After issuing a 14-working-day ultimatum demanding government intervention, their concerns have been met with silence and inaction.

In an interview, the Association’s President, Ebenezer Boateng, voiced deep disappointment over the ongoing neglect of their situation.

He revealed that the health ministry has not officially communicated with them, reflecting a perceived disregard for their role in the health sector and by the public.

Boateng confirmed the strike will proceed if no meaningful response is received. “On June 2, we will commence a nationwide strike. We are no longer interested in empty promises. This issue has persisted for five years, and assurances are no longer sufficient,” he stated.

The Association insists it has no alternative but to suspend their services until the government takes concrete steps to address the payment delays.
