The Ashanti Regional Police Command has confirmed that the suspects involved in the recent high-profile robberies and killings of mobile money vendors, including the tragic deaths of Patricia Nimako and another victim at Kwadaso, have admitted to the charges during police interrogation.
Speaking in an interview, DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Head of Public Affairs for the Ashanti Regional Police Command, revealed that the suspects confessed to the crimes in the presence of independent witnesses and are currently standing trial. They are expected to reappear in court today.
Among the suspects is Martin Amoah, also known as Baba Macho, identified as the key figure in the gang.
He was arrested in his hideout in Dodowa and has reportedly confessed to fatally shooting one of the victims at Krofrom.
According to DSP Ahianyo, Amoah later led police investigators to his hometown, Diaso, where he handed over the firearm used in the crime. The weapon has since been submitted to the police forensic laboratory for ballistic analysis.
DSP Ahianyo emphasized that the arrests have had a significant impact on the security situation in the region.
“Since these suspects were arrested, there have been no reported robberies involving mobile money vendors,” he stated, attributing the previous surge in such crimes to the dismantled gang.
He assured the public that the security situation in the Ashanti Region is now “relatively calm,” and the police continue to maintain a strong presence to deter criminal activity.
