Nyinahin, a community in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region, has been left without electricity following a violent clash between military personnel and residents. The incident resulted in one death and four injuries.
Speaking to Channel One News, Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Public Relations Officer for the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) in Ashanti West, confirmed that a stray bullet from the altercation struck and damaged a transformer, triggering the power outage.
According to Mr. Antwi, ECG officials conducted a preliminary inspection at the scene. However, due to the unrest, a full assessment could not be completed.
“Our engineers will visit the site tomorrow to further assess the transformer and determine the extent of the damage. We hope it’s only an oil leak,” he stated. “If that’s the case, we can refill the oil and restore power to the community.”
At this time, ECG is unable to provide a definite timeline for when electricity will be fully restored to the affected areas.
