The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has made a significant breakthrough in the investigation of missing containers belonging to the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), successfully tracing 2,637 containers following a thorough audit.
This revised total is more than twice the initial number of missing containers reported, sparking renewed public interest and debate.
Back in March 2025, the Ministry had reported that approximately 1,300 ECG containers were unaccounted for, with only 40 recovered at that point.
In an interview on May 27,2025 Richmond Rockson, the Ministry’s Head of Communications, clarified the confusing figures and outlined the efforts to verify the actual container count.
He explained that during the handover period, about 3,000 ECG containers were flagged as uncleared at the port. However, upon taking office, the new Energy Minister was informed that around 2,500 containers remained uncleared.
“To resolve these conflicting reports, the minister ordered a full investigation to establish the true number of missing containers,” Rockson said.
The investigation revealed that a total of 2,637 containers were involved, with 2,583 confirmed to be in the custody of port authorities.
Rockson stressed that this probe was essential in resolving the discrepancies and providing a clearer picture of ECG’s container inventory.
He also hinted that the investigation is ongoing and more containers might yet be uncovered if the process continues.
