The repatriation efforts commenced the following day, Saturday, May 17, and so far, 819 migrants from Niger and 106 from Nigeria have been returned to their home countries. The GIS announced the completion of the repatriation of these 925 individuals and confirmed that the process is ongoing for the remaining detainees.

Currently, 2,241 individuals are being held at the designated Holding Centre. The majority are from Niger (2,073), followed by Nigeria (138), with smaller numbers from Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Mali.

The GIS also highlighted that all repatriated migrants underwent thorough profiling and security checks according to Standard Operating Procedures. In line with international protocols, detainees were segregated by gender and age.

Additionally, the GIS has ensured the provision of meals and medical services at the Holding Centre, with a clinic available for any necessary treatment.
