Ayariga Condemns Police Shooting of Youths in Bawku

Bawku MP Ayariga Issues Strong Rebuke of Police Shooting Incident

Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has strongly condemned the police for allegedly shooting youths in Bawku, amidst rising tensions in the area.

In a statement released on April 9th, Ayariga refuted claims that he had directed police officers to allow residents access to the local market or to purchase goods. “I totally condemn the actions of the police in shooting some youth in Bawku today. Also, I have never had any discussion with any police and directed them to allow anyone to attend any market or purchase anything from anyone. Such matters are not my responsibility,” he stated.

He clarified that operational decisions are the sole responsibility of law enforcement agencies, emphasizing his lack of authority over their actions. “They are matters within the purview of law enforcement officers, and no decision of a law enforcement officer should be blamed on me because I don’t control them operationally,” Ayariga explained.

The MP urged security forces to collaborate with traditional authorities, specifically Abugrago Azoka II, the Zugran and overlord of Kusaug, to restore peace and maintain order in the region.
