Energy Minister John Jinapor has given assurances that the nation’s persistent power outages, commonly known as “dumsor,” will ease by the end of May as crucial maintenance work continues on several power plants across Ghana.
Responding to rising public frustration over the erratic electricity supply, Jinapor explained in a recent interview that the current maintenance efforts are essential to securing long-term stability in power generation.
He noted, “Significant maintenance activities are scheduled throughout May, with only minimal servicing expected in June. Provided there are no unexpected setbacks, Ghanaians can anticipate a more stable power supply going forward.”
Jinapor revealed that many of the country’s power plants have been operating beyond their optimal hours and require urgent servicing to avoid breakdowns.
“These plants are overdue for maintenance, and delaying it further would risk serious damage. As a responsible government, we must act now to preserve the integrity of our infrastructure,” he said.
He appealed to the public for patience during this period, emphasizing that while disruptions may continue temporarily, the maintenance is necessary to ensure reliable electricity in the months ahead.
