‘They Wanted to Fly Me to Tamale’ — Wontumi on Security Operatives’ Raid

Chairman Accuses Government of Political Persecution Amid Heavy Security Operation

Chairman Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has alleged that that national security operatives brought a helicopter to his home with the intention of capturing him and flying him to Tamale.

The dramatic claim came after a tense standoff during a raid on his residence today.

Wontumi said the security forces struggled for over 30 minutes trying to forcibly enter his home but failed as he refused to be dragged out.

“They brought a helicopter because they planned to take me to Tamale if they succeeded,” he disclosed.

He questioned why the operatives chose to escalate the situation when the police had already issued a warrant for his appearance, which he has accepted and promised to honor on Monday. “I am not a minister or part of the government, so why all this?” he asked.

According to Wontumi, the situation intensified when he called his supporters, who quickly gathered at his residence. “This prompted the security forces to temporarily retreat, only to return with about 100 armed military and police officers equipped with guns, axes, sticks, and other weapons. I even unleashed my dogs in defense.”

Adding to the drama, Wontumi revealed that a drone used during the raid crashed inside his house, and the operatives begged for its return.

Warning about the country’s fragile political state, Wontumi said, “If care is not taken, what Mahama is doing could lead to a coup in Ghana. He fears losing control after handing the country over to his allies.”

He also accused the operatives of planning to plant illegal items such as cocaine, weed, or gold in his home to frame him, despite official claims the raid was to investigate his Akonta Mining business.

Despite the ordeal, Wontumi stressed his respect for the rule of law and said he will honor the court summons on May 26. “I am not someone who disrespects court orders,” he affirmed.

He also lamented the freezing of his bank accounts without his knowledge, calling it “too personal” and accusing the government of political persecution. “Mr. Mahama destroyed my businesses in 2013, and now again in 2025. What have I done?” he asked.

Calling on Ghanaians and the international community to take note, Wontumi concluded, “This attack is because I want to be National Chairman of the NPP. The country is heading into dangerous times.”
