Stray Cattle to Be Slaughtered and Used to Feed Inmates – Kumasi Mayor Warns

Mayor Sets May 1 Deadline for Cattle Rearers to Clear Animals from the City

The Mayor of Kumasi, Richard Ofori Agyemang Boadi, has issued a firm warning to cattle owners, announcing that from May 1, any stray cattle found roaming within the city will be seized, slaughtered, and used to feed inmates at the Kumasi Central Prison.

Speaking at a press conference in Kumasi, the Mayor expressed concern over the increasing number of cattle freely wandering through public spaces, causing disruptions and leaving unsanitary conditions in their wake. He described the situation as unacceptable for a city of Kumasi’s stature.

“I want to make it clear: if you have cattle and they stray into the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly area, be prepared for them to be culled and handed over to the Kumasi Central Prison for food,” he said. “This will particularly apply to the stretch from the airport to Manhyia Palace.”

Mayor Boadi emphasized that such sights tarnish the city’s image, especially in areas frequently visited by dignitaries and tourists. “I cannot allow visitors arriving in Kumasi to be greeted by cattle waste along the main roads,” he added.

He urged all herders and cattle owners to take immediate steps to ensure their animals are kept outside the metropolis to avoid these severe measures.
