U.S. Embassy Warns Ghanaians on Visa Scams

Visa Success Starts with the Truth: U.S. Embassy Encourages Transparent Applications

The U.S. Embassy in Ghana has issued a firm warning to citizens against engaging in visa fraud and unauthorized entry into the United States, cautioning that such actions could result in serious consequences such as visa denials, cancellations, or deportation.

The warning came during the Embassy’s Consular Media Day held on May 9, 2025—a platform aimed at clarifying U.S. visa procedures, improving applicant experience, and correcting public misconceptions around the visa process.

In 2024, the Embassy processed 61,000 visa applications and approved 25,000 for Ghanaian nationals.

During the event, Consular General Elliot Fertik reaffirmed the Embassy’s dedication to a fair and transparent visa process, emphasizing the importance of legal travel.

“We welcome Ghanaians who wish to study, invest, or conduct business in the United States. However, those seeking entry must follow our immigration laws,” Fertik said.

He stressed the U.S. government’s uncompromising stance on illegal immigration, warning that individuals who violate immigration rules will face legal repercussions—including being barred from entry.

“Our aim is to ensure applicants know the correct way to apply for visas and what is expected of them,” Fertik added.

He also highlighted ongoing improvements in the visa process, including efforts to enhance customer service and transparency.

“Anyone traveling to the U.S. must comply with our laws. We’ve made several updates to make the visa process more user-friendly. At the same time, the State Department remains committed to the safety of U.S. citizens abroad and the enforcement of immigration laws.”

Fertik concluded by reiterating the dual mission of the U.S. government: making legitimate travel easier while protecting national borders through strict law enforcement.
