The Minister of Transport, Joseph Nikpe Bukari, has announced new measures to improve safety on Ghana’s inland waterways.
Following a tragic boat disaster on the Volta Lake at Kete Krachi that claimed 15 lives, including 11 children, the government is taking steps to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Minister emphasized that these measures aim to make water transport safer and more reliable, especially for communities that depend on it for daily travel and trade.
This move comes after criticism from the Bureau of Public Safety, which highlighted the lack of comprehensive regulations for water transport in Ghana.
