Savannah Region: Six Dead, Two Injured in Armed Attack on Chenchire Community

Residents flee into the bush as police launch investigation into deadly assault near Mandari.

At least six people have been killed and two others injured following a deadly armed attack on the Chenchire community, located near Mandari in the Bole District of the Savannah Region.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, August 28, 2025, sparking panic among residents, many of whom fled into the surrounding bush to escape the violence. It took hours before locals felt safe enough to emerge and assist police in locating the victims.

In a statement from the Savannah Regional Police Headquarters, authorities confirmed that a team led by Bole Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent Alex Adjeivie, was dispatched to the area after reports of the assault were received around 2:00 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers discovered six bodies scattered in various parts of the village. The deceased have been identified as:

  • Nyor Nyawile, 70

  • Nyoropor Nanii Nuuro, 55

  • Sachera, 71

  • Namii Tsipor, 80

  • Kwabena Bogara, 29

  • One other yet to be officially named

Two others — Sansah Sinkpe, 80, and Sansah Boonie, 43 — sustained serious injuries and were transported to the Bole District Hospital for treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Damongo Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

Police have launched a full investigation to determine the motive behind the attack and identify those responsible. Authorities have also assured the public that security patrols have been intensified in the area to help restore calm and ensure the safety of residents.
