Helicopter Crash: Children’s Support Fund Hits GHC3.5 Million

Fund established to support children orphaned by August 6 helicopter crash receives over GH¢3.5 million and $20,000 in donations

The Children’s Support Fund, set up to care for children orphaned by the tragic helicopter crash on August 6, has so far received GH¢3,576,600 and an additional $20,000 in donations.

An update released on Friday, August 29, 2025, confirmed that contributions made between August 19 and 28 came from a mix of institutions and individuals.

Major institutional donors include the Ghana Airport Company Limited, ARB Apex Bank PLC, STL Foundation, Olam Agric, Fidelity Bank, ADB Bank, GLICO General Insurance, and the National Insurance Commission.

Private individuals such as Kennedy Hedoe, Peter Adongo, Mensah Michael, Appaul Wiredu Lateef, Samuel Hodalor, and Dauda Iddi also made personal contributions.

The fund is being coordinated by Dr. Valerie Sawyerr, Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, and is aimed at providing long-term support for the affected children. Dr. Sawyerr noted that donations are still being accepted through dedicated Stanbic Bank Ghana accounts, with weekly updates provided to ensure transparency and accountability.

The helicopter crash on August 6 claimed the lives of Defence Minister Dr. Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, three other prominent individuals, and three military personnel.
