One Arrested In Ridge Hospital Assault – Health Ministry Confirms

Health Minister assures justice and increased security for medical staff after Ridge Hospital incident

The Ministry of Health has confirmed the arrest of one suspect in connection with the recent assault on healthcare workers at the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge Hospital). A second suspect remains on the run.

The Ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Tony Goodman, shared that Health Minister Kwabena Mintah Akandoh personally visited the hospital following the incident to ensure swift action was taken.

“The Minister went to Ridge immediately after the incident. He spoke with the Greater Accra Regional Police Command, ensured the victims received medical care, and instructed that the matter be thoroughly investigated,” Goodman explained.

He added, “While on site, a man approached the Minister — it was unclear at the time whether he was connected to the assault. Later, hospital management identified him as the main suspect. When police arrived, he fled, but his accomplice was arrested.”

Minister Akandoh, in a separate interview, confirmed the arrest and emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to justice and accountability.

“We are fully investigating the incident. Anyone claiming no arrests have been made is not helping the process. Let’s allow the police to handle the matter professionally. I don’t want to mention names, but anyone involved must be brought to book,” he stated.

The Minister further assured the public that operations at Ridge Hospital remain stable and uninterrupted.

“My updates from the hospital indicate that everything is running smoothly. The management team has briefed me, and we are monitoring the situation closely,” he added.

The Health Ministry has pledged continued support for staff safety and called for calm as investigations proceed.
