Everton Risk False Start Ahead of Move to New Stadium

David Moyes' side struggles to build momentum with poor pre-season form

David Moyes may not be a fan of Snoop Dogg’s music, but a line from one of the rapper’s hits captures the Everton manager’s current mood: “I can’t fake it.”

After a 2-2 draw with Manchester United at the Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Everton wrapped up their Premier League Summer Series campaign bottom of the table with just a single point—having lost their three previous matches.

Moyes, who last saw Snoop perform at the 2019 Super Bowl in Atlanta, wasn’t dwelling on the halftime show this time. While Sunday’s result was a modest improvement, Everton’s lack of pre-season success is beginning to raise concerns—especially with the club on the verge of a landmark moment.

Anticipation had been high heading into this summer. With a new state-of-the-art stadium, ambitious new ownership, and a manager who deeply understands the club’s identity, many Everton fans hoped this would signal a bold new chapter.

Instead, questions are beginning to mount.

Everton face Roma on Saturday in what will be the final test event at their new home. But Moyes’ comments at his final press conference in the U.S. were more about transfers than transformation.

“I think there’ll be deals next week,” he said. “We’re getting much closer. But I felt that four or five weeks ago as well.

Obviously, we’re getting near the tickly bits and we’ve got to get some things done.”

With the Premier League season approaching fast, Everton need more than just new signings—they need momentum, clarity, and a reason for belief as they settle into their long-awaited new home.
