Mahama Vows to Complete Krofrom Market by December 2026

Abandoned since 2007, market to be revived under NDC’s national redevelopment agenda

President John Dramani Mahama has pledged to complete the long-neglected Krofrom Market in Kumasi by December 2026, as part of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s Market Enhancement Programme.

Speaking during his “Thank You Tour” in the Ashanti Region, Mahama said the market’s completion will be prioritized under a broader initiative aimed at reviving 18 stalled market projects across the country. The Krofrom Market, abandoned since its launch in 2007, has become overrun with weeds and crime, rendering it unsafe for traders and the community.

Mahama tasked the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly and Vice Presidential candidate Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang to collaborate on fast-tracking the reconstruction process.

Nana Sakina, the Market Queen, praised Mahama for his consistent efforts to complete abandoned projects and pledged the full support of traders for the NDC’s plans.

While the announcement has been welcomed by many, Mahama’s team has yet to outline specific details regarding financing, timelines, or the selection of contractors.

The move is seen as a major gesture toward revitalizing local commerce and restoring public confidence in long-abandoned infrastructure.
