Key stakeholders in Ghana’s energy sector are calling on the government to publish a load-shedding timetable ahead of a scheduled nationwide power outage on Sunday, July 13.
The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced that the blackout is necessary to facilitate maintenance work by gas supplier ENI. The outage will result from a temporary shutdown of gas valves as part of rehabilitation efforts aimed at boosting gas production.
Energy Analyst and Executive Director of the Centre for Environmental Management and Sustainable Energy, Benjamin Nsiah, stressed the need for proactive planning and communication.
“This particular shortage is linked to scheduled maintenance by ENI,” he said. “The ministry needs to implement specific interventions, including a clear and timely load management plan to help consumers prepare.”
Nsiah noted that not all areas are likely to be affected equally. He expects essential service zones to remain powered, reinforcing the need for a well-structured schedule.
“There should be a timetable indicating which areas will have electricity and which won’t. This is crucial for effective planning and to minimize disruption,” he added.
