Atwima Nwabiagya South: MCE and MP Lead Clean-Up Exercise in Abuakwa

Leaders rally residents and institutions in six-hour sanitation exercise to improve hygiene and promote community involvement in Abuakwa

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Atwima Nwabiagya South, Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah, and the Member of Parliament for the constituency, Hon. Shirley Kyei, jointly led a clean-up exercise in Abuakwa on Saturday, 5th July 2025, as part of the Municipality’s monthly sanitation initiative.

The six-hour exercise focused on desilting choked gutters and clearing overgrown weeds in and around key areas, including the Abuakwa Main Market, Abuakwa Polyclinic, and Asomdwoe Baptist Church.

Participants included staff from various decentralized departments—such as the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Customs Division, NADMO—as well as traders and residents from the community.

Leadership Commits to Sustained Sanitation Efforts

Addressing participants after the activity, Hon. Wisdom Osei Boamah emphasized the Assembly’s commitment to improving sanitation across streets and markets in the Municipality. He urged residents and traders to take ownership of the clean-up campaign and actively participate in future exercises.

To support sanitation efforts, the MCE also donated a container dustbin to traders at the Abuakwa Market.

Rekindling Communal Spirit

In an interview during the event, MP Hon. Shirley Kyei encouraged residents to revive the spirit of communal service and prioritize regular clean-up activities in their neighborhoods.

She noted that maintaining a clean environment not only enhances the image of the community but also plays a crucial role in preventing the spread of communicable diseases.

Hon. Kyei reiterated her support for the Municipal Assembly’s initiative and called for collective responsibility in sustaining a healthy, clean environment in Atwima Nwabiagya South.
