The arrests took place at a private residence in Asankragwa, located in Ghana’s Western Region.
The operation, based on actionable intelligence, uncovered 1.3 kilograms of gold valued at approximately GH¢1.4 million, GH¢1.3 million in cash, 12 pump-action shotguns with cartridges, detailed gold trading records, and multiple casino cards believed to be linked to laundered proceeds.
Speaking at a press briefing at the National Security Headquarters, GoldBod CEO Sammy Gyamfi confirmed that legal proceedings will be initiated against the suspects.
“We are committed to ensuring that all individuals involved in illegal mining and gold trading are brought to justice,” Gyamfi stated.
