Woman Arrested in Tema for Possession of Suspected Narcotics

Police Seize 3,900 Slabs of Suspected Indian Hemp; Manhunt Launched for Driver

Sophia Amankwa, a 29-year-old woman, has been arrested by the Tema Regional Police Command for allegedly possessing a significant quantity of suspected narcotics.

The arrest occurred on June 25, 2025, at Dogo Junction near Ada in the Greater Accra Region. According to a police statement, officers intercepted a tipper truck with registration number GW 9768-12 during a targeted operation. Upon spotting the police, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene.

A search of the truck revealed 3,900 compressed slabs of a substance believed to be Indian hemp. The drugs were tightly packed into 52 sacks and wrapped in cellophane tape.

Preliminary investigations have identified Sophia Amankwa as the owner of the consignment. She is currently in custody and assisting police with ongoing investigations.

Authorities have launched a manhunt for the fleeing driver and any other individuals connected to the narcotics operation.

The Tema Regional Police Command reaffirmed its dedication to tackling drug trafficking and related crimes, assuring the public of its continued vigilance in maintaining law and order.
