Ministry of Interior Announces Eid-ul-Adha Public Holiday on June 6

Eid-ul-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, commemorated on June 6

The Ministry of Interior has officially announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be a statutory public holiday in honor of Eid-ul-Adha.

In a statement released on Thursday, May 29, and signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak, citizens are encouraged to observe the day nationwide as a public holiday.

Eid-ul-Adha, also called the Festival of Sacrifice, holds immense significance in the Islamic faith. It honors the steadfast devotion of Prophet Ibrahim, who was ready to sacrifice his son Ishmael in obedience to God’s command.

This festival marks the end of Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage to Mecca, which is one of Islam’s five pillars. It takes place on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar.

Known as the “Greater Eid,” Eid-ul-Adha is celebrated with special prayers, the ritual sacrifice of animals, and charitable acts, as Muslims worldwide gather with loved ones and extend help to those in need.
