Bernard Antwi Boasiako, widely known as Chairman Wontumi and serving as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is scheduled to report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service today, Monday, May 26, 2025.
This development comes after a joint operation by National Security officials and police officers attempted to arrest him at his home last Friday, May 23, but were unsuccessful.
The move sparked immediate backlash from NPP supporters, who gathered in large numbers outside Chairman Wontumi’s residence, condemning the heavy presence of armed security personnel.
Though the exact reasons for the attempted arrest have not been disclosed, Chairman Wontumi has assured authorities he will comply with the summons and present himself to the CID today.
His lawyer, Kwame Adom Appiah, said that they are fully cooperating with the police.
He emphasized that Wontumi is a committed democrat who will not evade accountability.
“He has no intention of fleeing; he has significant investments in Ghana and will appear whenever called upon,” Appiah stated. “We haven’t engaged in any criminal activity and are confident in facing the investigations.”
