The legal representative for Bernard Antwi Boasiako—widely known as Chairman Wontumi and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Ashanti Regional Chairman—has lashed out at a recent security operation at his client’s home, calling it “immature” and an unnecessary display of force.
Kwame Adom-Appiah, who also holds the role of NPP Ashanti Regional Secretary, strongly criticised the actions of the combined National Security and Police team that stormed Wontumi’s Kumasi residence on Friday, May 23, 2025.
Speaking to reporters at the scene, Adom-Appiah condemned the operation as a blatant misuse of public resources. “Deploying about 20 vehicles to arrest someone who neither poses a national threat nor has attempted a coup is completely uncalled for,” he stated. “This approach is both costly to the state and sends the wrong message.”
He argued that a formal invitation or a more measured approach could have achieved the same objective without stirring public anxiety.
The raid has left the neighbourhood on edge, with residents visibly unsettled by the large security presence. While it remains unclear whether Chairman Wontumi is inside the property or the motive behind the raid, tension continues to simmer, as armed personnel stand guard around the compound.
