The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced a spike in Mpox infections, confirming eight new cases—bringing the national total to nine for 2025.
The fresh cases were evenly split between the Greater Accra and Western Regions, according to Dr. Dennis Odai Laryea, Deputy Director of Surveillance at the GHS.
Speaking in an interview, Dr. Laryea explained that the earlier case detected this year had been contained swiftly.
However, the recent surge is prompting heightened surveillance and public caution.
Over 100 suspected cases have been investigated nationwide, though only the Greater Accra and Western Regions have recorded confirmed infections.
The GHS continues to monitor all 16 regions closely and has reassured the public that robust systems are in place to detect and contain the disease swiftly.
Authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant and practice good hygiene as part of nationwide efforts to curb further spread.
