The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed two additional cases of Mpox, bringing the total number of infections in the country to four. The new cases were detected in the Greater Accra and Western regions, with no direct connection to previously reported infections.
In a statement released on May 18, GHS Director-General Prof. Samuel Kaba Akoriyea assured the public that contact tracing and other public health measures have been activated to prevent further spread. Health authorities are urging the public to maintain good hand hygiene, avoid close contact with individuals showing symptoms like rashes, and promptly report any suspected cases to nearby health facilities.
Mpox is a viral disease that spreads through close contact with infected people, animals, or contaminated materials. Symptoms include rashes, fever, headaches, muscle aches, back pain, low energy, and swollen lymph nodes.
The GHS has called on media outlets to help spread awareness and ensure accurate information on Mpox, while the Government of Ghana remains dedicated to protecting public health through effective measures.
