President John Mahama has assured Ghanaians that they can expect even more positive updates, with key economic improvements set to be revealed in the upcoming mid-year budget review scheduled for August.
“I’m confident that by the time the Finance Minister returns to Parliament in August for the mid-year review, we’ll have even more good news for Ghanaians,” Mahama said during his ‘Thank You Tour’ in the Upper West Region.
Highlighting early signs of economic recovery, such as a stronger cedi and lower living costs, the President noted that ongoing policy reforms and budget discipline are beginning to yield tangible results.
“Our focus has been on stabilising the economy. In March, we presented a budget that cuts unnecessary expenditure and redirects savings into priority programmes, just as we promised in our manifesto,” Mahama explained.
The President commended his economic management team, especially the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, for their effective collaboration in driving the nation’s economic recovery.
“I wish to commend the Minister of Finance and the Governor of the Bank of Ghana, along with their teams, for their coordination in this economic turnaround,” he added.
On infrastructure, President Mahama revealed that Cabinet is set to approve a series of critical national projects under his administration’s Big Push Programme, with roads at the forefront of these initiatives.
“Cabinet will soon approve priority projects under the Big Push Infrastructure Programme. Many of these projects will focus on road development,” he said.
Key projects include the dualisation of major highways such as the Accra-Kumasi, Accra-Takoradi, and Accra-Aflao routes, as well as significant bridge works across the country. Additionally, a new expressway linking Accra to Kumasi will be constructed, reducing travel time between the cities to just two and a half hours.
In the Upper West Region, Mahama pledged that the Watumu–Bolgatanga Trunk Road would receive urgent attention.
“During the campaign, we travelled on the terrible roads of the Upper West Region. Under the Big Push, we are prioritising the Watumu–Bolgatanga Trunk Road,” he confirmed.
President Mahama reiterated the NDC’s commitment to fostering inclusive, transformative development nationwide, with particular emphasis on regions that have historically been neglected.
