Godwin Edudzi Tamakloe, the Acting Chief Executive of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), has strongly criticized the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) for demanding the suspension of Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, over a controversial dollar gift incident.
The controversy erupted after a viral video showed Gyamfi handing over bundles of U.S. dollar notes to Patricia Asiedua, aka Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who has since converted to evangelism.
This gesture sparked widespread public outcry, with civil society groups and political opponents condemning it as inappropriate and a poor display of judgment.
In response, Gyamfi issued a public apology, acknowledging the misstep and expressing deep regret.
In an interview on Tuesday, May 13, Tamakloe vehemently rejected calls for Gyamfi’s suspension, accusing the NPP of lacking moral consistency.
“The NPP has set no standard, and they’ve lowered the bar. I won’t engage in comparisons or bring up past actions,” Tamakloe stated.
He reiterated his support for Gyamfi’s apology, offering an additional apology on behalf of the party.
“My brother has apologized, and we stand by that apology. With all due respect to the people of Ghana, we sincerely apologize on his behalf,” he said.
Tamakloe concluded by highlighting the importance of this incident as a broader lesson for politicians, stressing the need for greater mindfulness in their public conduct.
