The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has raised serious concerns over what it describes as a troubling display of extravagance by Sammy Gyamfi, the Acting CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, warning that such behavior reflects poorly on the leadership of former President John Mahama.
The criticism follows the circulation of a video showing Gyamfi handing out U.S. dollar bills to self-styled evangelist Nana Agradaa.
According to the NPP, the video is evidence of Gyamfi’s “ostentatious” lifestyle and highlights a growing trend of unchecked luxury among key figures associated with Mahama.
At a press conference, NPP National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye said the incident is not just a matter of personal conduct but one of national image.
“The world is watching Mahama and the kind of governance he endorses. Just 120 days into office, Sammy Gyamfi is seen distributing dollars freely and being chauffeured in a 2025 Range Rover Autobiography valued at $350,000. This is painted opulence at its peak,” Boakye stated.
He further alleged that Gyamfi prefers using U.S. dollars over the Ghanaian cedi for everyday transactions, which he said undermines confidence in the local currency.
“It is unethical and a betrayal of public trust for a government appointee tasked with stabilizing the economy to show such disregard for the cedi,” Boakye added.
The NPP is calling on Ghanaians — and the international community — to scrutinize what they say is the return of wasteful leadership under Mahama’s camp.
