Kennedy Agyapong Laughs Off $500 Judgment, Suggests $5,000 for Anas Instead

Kennedy Agyapong's Humorous Proposal Follows Court’s Decision to Slash $18 Million Defamation Award

Former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has humorously proposed paying investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas $5,000—ten times more than the $500 awarded by a U.S. court in a recent defamation case.

In a video circulating on social media as of May 12, Agyapong is seen laughing and clapping as he quips, “Hahaha! Maybe we have to give Anas five thousand.”

This comes after a U.S. federal judge slashed the original $18 million judgment against Agyapong—deemed “excessive”—to just $500, despite upholding the jury’s finding that Agyapong had maliciously defamed Anas.

Anas, who brought the case, responded that the lawsuit was never about financial gain, but about justice and truth. He emphasized that no allegations made by Agyapong were upheld in court and vowed to appeal the reduced damages.

“Our victory is in the judgment, not the award,” Anas asserted, pledging to continue his mission to expose corruption by naming, shaming, and jailing wrongdoers.
