A 36-year-old electrician, Kofitse Zigah, has been sentenced to 10 years in prison with hard labor by the Circuit Court at Tokor in the Ketu South Municipality.
He was convicted for defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old daughter on two separate occasions at their home in Adoteykope, Aflao.
Zigah reportedly gave his daughter a non-alcoholic beverage on his birthday in February, causing her to doze off before the first defilement.
In April, during her birthday, he allegedly gave her another soft drink, suspected to be laced with a sedative, before defiling her again, which led to her pregnancy.
The horrific events came to light after the Assembly Member for Avoeme West Electoral Area, Miss Faustina Elikplim Korwu, encountered the victim and reported the case to the Aflao Police on May 1, 2025, after the daughter disclosed her ordeal and symptoms of tiredness and headaches.
A medical report confirmed the victim was 15 weeks and 4 days pregnant.
Kofitse Zigah pleaded guilty to the charge of defilement during his court appearance on May 5, 2025, leading to his immediate sentencing.
While the complainant expressed satisfaction with the swift justice, she noted she had hoped for a longer sentence, though speculated the judge might have considered his full admission of guilt and apparent poor health. Under Ghanaian law, defilement of a minor carries a sentence of 7 to 25 years.
