IMANI Africa Gives Mahama 50% Rating on 120-Day Pledge Tracker

Think tank evaluates President's early performance, citing completed and pending campaign pledges

Policy think tank IMANI Africa has assessed President John Mahama’s performance over his initial 120 days in office, awarding him a score of 50% for his efforts in fulfilling campaign promises.

Dennis Asare, a Senior Research Associate at IMANI, noted that the score reflects the number of commitments either completed or officially initiated—such as launching a project, forming a committee, or publishing a report. These actions are deemed as fulfilled based on IMANI’s assessment criteria.

Despite this, the think tank pointed out that 42 of the pledges remain only partially fulfilled. High-profile initiatives like the 24-hour economy were cited as still in progress, while some promises, including the repeal of the COVID-19 levy, have yet to be addressed.

Speaking in an interview, Mr. Asare cautioned that while President Mahama’s recent address portrayed a picture of completed pledges, a closer analysis reveals several outstanding commitments.

This 120-day performance review was a central part of Mahama’s campaign pledge to foster transparency and track progress through measurable benchmarks.

In his address, Mahama emphasized that his administration has taken bold steps marked by transparency and commitment, laying the groundwork for national development. IMANI, however, reiterated the need for systemic reforms, particularly in procurement processes, to reduce revenue loss and enhance public accountability.
