Korle-Bu Renal Unit Resumes Outpatient Services After One-Week Suspension

Dialysis Patients Back at Korle-Bu After Shutdown

Outpatient services at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital’s Renal Unit have resumed after a one-week suspension that left many patients without critical dialysis treatment.

Kojo Baffour Ahenkora, President of the Renal Patients Association, confirmed the development during an interview. He expressed disappointment over the lack of clear communication from the facility during the service interruption.

“There was no official notice either when the suspension happened or when services resumed,” Ahenkora stated, emphasizing the confusion and anxiety this caused for patients.

According to him, patients began receiving calls to return for their dialysis sessions starting Tuesday, suggesting that the unit may have restocked previously unavailable medical supplies. He noted that multiple patient groups have since been called in for treatment.

“Tuesday, some patients were called in, and on Wednesday, others were also invited for treatment. From what I’ve gathered, the unit is fully operational now,” he said.

However, Ahenkora stressed the need for transparent and timely communication from hospital authorities.

“It would have been better if the hospital officially informed us that the issue had been resolved and services had resumed. Instead, patients were left to rely on word of mouth,” he added.

Despite not visiting the unit personally that morning, Ahenkora said multiple patients confirmed they were receiving treatment.
