NPP Still Blaming Others, Not Ready for Power, Says Gyamfi

Post-Election Scrutiny: Gyamfi Questions NPP's Path to Recovery

Sammy Gyamfi, CEO of the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod), has taken aim at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), arguing the party is unprepared to return to power and has failed to reflect meaningfully on its 2024 election defeat.

Lawyer Gyamfi responded to remarks made during the NPP’s ongoing “Thank You Tour.” He challenged Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s acknowledgment that the party’s loss was due to the “arrogance of power,” calling it insincere.

“They’re still shifting blame instead of taking responsibility. When Ghanaians cried out, they ignored the signs. We warned them, but they wouldn’t listen,” Gyamfi said.

He was critical of the party’s attempts at self-reflection, noting, “After just four months in opposition, they claim to have changed. Yet their statements remain as arrogant as ever.”

Gyamfi also rejected suggestions that the current economic recovery is thanks to the NPP’s policies, attributing progress instead to the IMF programme and developments initiated under former President John Mahama. “The NPP left the economy in shambles. The growth we’re seeing is due to sound decisions made after their exit,” he said, referencing missed IMF performance targets under the previous administration.

He further described the NPP as being in internal disarray, citing recent infighting and a lack of discipline. “They’re quarrelling over 1,000 Ghana cedis. Young members are attacking each other. This is not how a party ready to lead behaves,” he remarked.

Gyamfi concluded by praising the Mahama administration for stabilising the economy. “Fuel prices are down, the cedi is strengthening, and the dollar rate is improving. This is the leadership Ghanaians chose. If the NPP prefers to remain in chaos, that’s their choice.”
