“They Don’t Need a Coach, They Need a Friend” – Abdul Karim Zito to Asante Kotoko Players

Acting Head Coach Emphasizes Emotional Support Amidst Club’s Struggles

Abdul Karim Zito, the Acting Head Coach and Technical Director of Asante Kotoko, has expressed a deep understanding of his players’ emotional needs, stating that they require more than just tactical guidance—they need emotional support and a sense of camaraderie.

Reflecting on the club’s difficult season, which includes a four-game winless streak and overall inconsistency, Zito emphasized that his approach to coaching will address the players’ emotional well-being, not just their technical skills.

“This time it’s not coaching they need,” Zito said. “They need me to be their father. They need me to be their friend. I need to meet them where they are, connect with them on their level to get the results we want.”

Zito’s remarks come after a challenging period for the club, including their recent defeat to Nations FC. He believes the emotional toll of playing for a high-profile club like Asante Kotoko, which faces constant public scrutiny, is significant. The pressure, Zito explained, can weigh heavily on the players both on and off the field.

By focusing on building a deeper, more supportive relationship with his players, Zito is hoping to restore their confidence and unity as they seek to turn their season around.
