Ayariga Vows to Pursue Lasting Peace in Bawku Amid Violence

Amid Smear Campaign, Ayariga Reaffirms Commitment to Bawku Resolution

Bawku Central MP Mahama Ayariga has reiterated his dedication to achieving lasting peace in the Bawku area, following recent violent clashes and an attempt to set his private residence on fire.

In a press statement issued on Friday, April 11th, Ayariga expressed his condolences to bereaved families and offered sympathy to those injured in the conflict.

Currently on an official trip abroad, Ayariga acknowledged the frustration of Bawku’s youth regarding the slow progress in resolving the long-standing conflict and allegations of misconduct by certain law enforcement officers. He affirmed the NDC government’s commitment to justice and a sustainable peace process in the region.

“I understand the anger and frustration of the youth about the pace of the resolution… and the misconduct of some misguided law enforcement officers,” he stated.

Ayariga urged all parties to continue supporting the peace initiative led by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, noting the active involvement and commitment of the Overlord of Kusaug, Zugran Naaba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II, and the Overlord of Mamprugu, Nayiri Naa Bɔhagu Mahami Sheriga. He called for unity among constituents to support these efforts for long-term peace.

He also addressed a “smear campaign” against him on social media, accusing some individuals of exploiting the Bawku situation for political gain. “Kindly disregard the lies being told about me by political detractors… The smear campaign on social media will not distract me,” he said.

Ayariga emphasized his unwavering resolve to see the conflict resolved in accordance with Ghanaian laws and judicial rulings.
