Ghanaian Exporters Hit Hard by 10% US Tariff, Says Importers and Exporters Association

Ghanaian Exporters Concerned Over New 10% US Tariff Impact on Trade

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana has expressed grave concern over the newly imposed 10% tariff on Ghanaian exports to the United States, calling it a significant setback for the country’s export sector.

Samson Asaki Awingobit, the Executive Secretary of the Association, emphasized the adverse effects this tariff will have on Ghanaian businesses, especially those involved in exporting goods.

He urged the Ghanaian government to take swift action to address the issue and provide support to mitigate the challenges faced by exporters. “We believe the Government of Ghana will definitely have to tell us what they plan to do to alleviate the situation,” he said.

The 10% tariff, announced by US President Donald Trump on April 2, 2025, is part of broader trade measures targeting China and the European Union, aiming to counter what the US perceives as unfair trade practices.
