Soldier Who Assaulted Woman and Pharmacist Must Be Dismissed – Vanderpuye

According to sources within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the incident occurred earlier this week.

The National Coordinator of the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP), Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, has condemned the violent conduct of a Ghana Air Force officer who allegedly assaulted a woman and a pharmacist at Burma Camp, calling for his immediate dismissal from the service.

The officer, identified as Warrant Officer Class One (WO1) Mensah Williams, reportedly attached to the Office of the Chief of Staff, was arrested by military police after a viral video captured him attacking the two victims inside a pharmacy within the camp.

According to sources within the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), the incident occurred earlier this week. The footage shows the soldier confronting a pharmacist before slapping him repeatedly and then turning on a female customer who attempted to film the altercation. He was seen striking the woman several times on the head.

Mr. Vanderpuye described the assault as “horrible” and “unacceptable,” insisting that such behaviour has no place in the military.

“I don’t believe this is an officer of the Ghana Armed Forces. No professional soldier would do this. It’s shameful and disturbing to see a man treat a woman this way,” he said.

He added that the soldier’s actions were inconsistent with the values and discipline that define the Ghana Armed Forces.

“This man has effectively sacked himself. No true officer of the GAF would behave like this. The military trains its officers to be disciplined and to protect, not to abuse civilians,” Mr. Vanderpuye stated.

The Ghana Armed Forces are expected to issue a formal statement following ongoing internal investigations into the incident.
