Kasoa Tollbooth Crash: Four Confirmed Dead

The deceased have been identified as the driver of the sprinter minibus

The Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command has confirmed the deaths of four people following a fatal accident near the Kasoa tollbooth on Sunday, October 26, 2024.

The deceased have been identified as the driver of the sprinter minibus, a male passenger, a Level 200 midwifery student from KAAF University, and a child.

Several others sustained injuries; those with minor wounds have been treated and discharged, while others with severe injuries remain on admission at the Mother and Child Hospital in Kasoa and the Police Hospital in Accra.

Police say the driver of a Jeep 4×4, with registration number GR 7673 W, has been identified and is currently assisting with investigations.

According to eyewitnesses, the Jeep was reportedly reversing on the highway when the sprinter minibus, registered GW 7455-18, crashed into its rear. The impact caused the minibus to somersault multiple times before landing on the median of the road.

Residents have long described the Broadcasting–Tollbooth–Kasoa stretch of the N1 Highway as a hotspot for frequent accidents.

Chief Inspector Joseph Mensah of the MTTD at the Ngleshie Amanfro District Police Command attributed the crash to overspeeding.

“Excessive speeding remains a major cause of accidents on this road. Although we continuously caution motorists to drive carefully, many ignore these warnings. We are urging drivers to prioritise their safety and that of their passengers,” he said.
