The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has invited the Chief Executive Officer of the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), Julius Neequaye Kotey, for questioning following his claim that he rejected a GH¢4 million bribe allegedly offered to halt the rollout of the new Digitalised Vehicle Registration Plate (DP) policy.
In a recent media interview, Mr. Kotey alleged that some influential individuals had attempted to persuade him to suspend the digital registration project, which aims to curb vehicle-related fraud and improve road safety.
The OSP confirmed that it has reached out to the DVLA boss to obtain further details regarding the claim and to help identify those allegedly involved in the bribery attempt.
In a related development, the OSP has also launched a separate investigation into a sitting member of the Council of State over suspected corruption and corruption-related offences tied to gold trading.
Sources close to the investigation say the inquiry focuses on allegations that the Council member used his position to influence the granting of a gold licence to a company in which he is believed to have undisclosed interests.
