Helicopter Crash Probe: Tolon MP Invokes RTI Law, Seeks Update from President Mahama

The tragic crash occurred two months ago

The Member of Parliament for Tolon and First Deputy Minority Whip, Alhaji Habib Iddrisu, has written to President John Dramani Mahama requesting an update on the investigation into the August 6, 2025 helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight senior government officials and military personnel.

In a letter dated October 27, 2025, the MP invoked Article 21(1)(f) of the 1992 Constitution and Section 18 of the Right to Information Act, 2019 (Act 989), which grant citizens the right to access information of public interest.

The tragic crash occurred two months ago and resulted in the deaths of:

  • Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah

  • Minister of Environment Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed

  • Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Mohammed

  • NDC Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong

  • Former parliamentary candidate Mr. Samuel Aboagye

  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala

  • Flying Officer Twum Ampadu

  • Sergeant Ernest Addo

Following the tragedy, the government announced on August 25 that a committee of inquiry had been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, with a pledge to release its findings within 30 days.

However, Iddrisu noted that no report or update has been made public, despite growing public concern.

“In light of the time that has passed and the significant public interest in this matter, I respectfully request a copy of the investigative report or an update,” the MP stated. “The public deserves to know what led to this tragic loss of such prominent figures and dedicated public servants.”

He added that if the final report is not yet complete, an interim update should be issued to demonstrate transparency and accountability.

“This would not only keep the public informed but also reflect the government’s commitment to transparency during this difficult time,” he said.

Alhaji Iddrisu concluded by expressing hope for a prompt response in accordance with the timelines stipulated under the Right to Information Act.
